Until recently, lingerie modeling shops and light touch body rub studios in Tampa and nearby communities like Palmetto, Bradenton, and Sarasota, were wonderful places where you could be 95% sure of getting at least a good full body massage or light touch body rub from a naked girl. Before the police raids and arrests in 1998 and 1999, I found that about 1 in 4 girls working in these shops would let me touch them ANYWHERE. Then there was a police raid of many such businesses in Tampa in June 1998 and similar series busts at lingerie modeling shops in Sarasota in December 1999. These arrests for various victimless crimes (solicitation for prostitution, doing massage without a license, etc.) made most of the girls working in them afraid to do much of anything. The result is that most of Tampa’s, Palmetto’s, Bradenton’s, and Sarasota’s sexually oriented massage parlors have started calling themselves “lingerie modeling shops,” and simultaneously they have in most cases become an aggravating waste of money – and time. For example, I spent $100 at the Finesse Modeling Shop, 7984 U.S. 41 (at Hernando) in Bradenton (south of Tampa) only to see a pretty girl dance in front of me wearing the equivalent of a two-piece bathing suit; she wouldn’t take even her bathing suit top or brassiere (whatever it was) off when I asked her to. When I asked her if she was going to let me see her naked or if she’d do a lap dance (I didn’t ask for more), she shouted at me, “You’re soliciting, and that’s illegal! … I obey the law!” I could have gotten more for free by going to look at girls on the beach. For a $20 entry fee and another $20 for a lap dance ($40 total), I could have gotten more at many of the area’s strip clubs.
Similarly, I spent $160 at The Legend, 4613 Grady Avenue in Tampa, only to see a young woman dance naked, but she let me touch her almost not at all. I could have gotten more by going to any of Tampa’s strip clubs where I could have seen 50 naked girls, not one, many of them better looking than the one I saw at The Legend, and for only a $20 entry fee, not the $160 I paid at The Legend – and again, for $40 ($20 entry and $20 for a lap dance) I could have gotten more than I did for $160 I paid at The Legend. I’ve had many such frustrating experiences at the lingerie modeling and/or massage shops in Tampa, Palmetto, Bradenton, and Sarasota. If you get the right girl at the right shop, you can still sometimes get anything up to and including intercourse, or “full service.” However, you might spend over two thousand dollars at a dozen shops before you find her. You are looking for a needle in a haystack, and it’s a case of buyer beware! If you ASK what you’re going to get for your $100 or $180 or whatever, the girls are afraid to speak forthrightly out of fear of either alienating you, the customer, on one hand, or getting arrested if they say the do more than the law. So the girls in these shops prey on customers’ belief that they’ll deliver more than they can tell you about. So they make no promises and hope you’ll spend big bucks based on your unspoken assumption that you are going to get more than you were promised. In other words, lingerie modeling shops in Tampa, Palmetto, Bradenton, and Sarasota are usually ripoffs. I know of two shops where I think you still can usually find a girl who will go “all the way” and another where they won’t go QUITE that far, but I don’t know how to tell you which ones they are without risking the local Sex Police reading this and shutting them down.
Something else to keep in mind is this: All – I repeat, ALL – lingerie modeling shops and sexually oriented massage parlors in Tampa, Palmetto, Bradenton, and Sarasota have video cameras in their waiting rooms. Sometimes the cameras are cleverly hidden. Most of the time they are in plain view. In either case – trust me – it’s there. You can’t get in or out without being videotaped. I have visited probably most of these shops in these cities, and I have ALWAYS found a video camera. Therefore, be advised if you would prefer to not be videotaped. Either stay away – or consider wearing wrap-around sunglasses and/or a wide-brim hat to hide your face from the video cameras.
By the way, the girls at Mons Venus on Dale Mabry in Tampa tell me lap dancing was prohibited by city ordinance that became effective around the beginning of the year 2000, but as of the latter half of January 2000, which was after the effective date of the new law, lap dancing was going on the same as before the law was passed.
