Action
Reports tell us that Colombia is NOT the safest place to go. Especially if you are an American Citizen. If you are a fluent Spanish speaker, have a sense of adventure and stick to places that are in the cities, you should not have any problems. Just keep a low profile don’t go telling everyone you are a gringo and get to know taxi drivers recommended by the hotels.

There are about 8 different kinds of sex venues in Colombia. There are street hookers, brothels, discos, strip clubs and bars, massage parlors, escort services, and regular girls. The country has no end of massage parlors and brothels. Some are little storefronts with a receptionist and a worker who does quick blowjobs in a screened off room. They’re very upfront, nothing illegal about them. And cheap.

Women
Colombian women are beautiful. They walk a great deal and exercise, so their bodies tend to be fit and trim. I did not have any sex in Bogota, but any hotel desk clerk can show you the newspaper with the ads, and call a girl on your behalf to come to the hotel or you can go to where she is. A good clerk will tell you whether the neighborhood where she is happens to be safe, and how much the taxi driver should charge you. Many Colombian women are quite romantic, even the hookers, so your date may go 200% better if you have a gift for her. If you plan it ahead of time, bring something from the US as a gift: a watch, a nice pen, some perfume, something that might not be available there. Or buy her some flowers. Many Colombian women are attracted by foreign men, so you might be able to stir up nonhooker action. In Bogota, you might be able to find English speaking women. They are great, friendly, and stunning. They are willing to please. Being able to Speak Spanish will help a lot. Due to the warm climate the women dress provocatively. Bogotá is the Capital, where many girls from all over the country go to college, work etc. So if you know where to look, you can find anything you want. Colombian women are quiet and sophisticated. One of Colombia’s big pastimes is beauty contests. The women of the coast Cartagena, Baranquilla and Santa Marta are going to be more like Cubans and Dominicans because of the African blood mix, however the women of the interior have that beautiful tan skin. Medellin, Cali and Bogotá Cartagena is known to have a darker population than many other areas of Colombia. The women go to Cartagena to have fun, meet tourists, and maybe make a bit of money.

Regular Girls
You can find these at the marriage agencies, in the plaza’s, stores, restaurants, everywhere. If you see something you like, do a short not too loud and not too quiet directed at the intended target and lasting about 1 second. Too loud and long is overly aggressive, too soft and short is not assertive enough. Try practicing on the street girls at first. If done just right, she will be the only one that hears it. It sends a clear message that you like what you see. Just relax and observe her reaction. If she’s interested believe me she will find a way to let you know. If you are an obvious gringo chances are she will be at least a little curious. They have a demure very easy going way about them in these matters that is a joy to watch.

Bucaramanga:
“In the “City of the Parks” the women are even better looking than Bogota’s ladies. One place you might go is called Bar Stop Show. Ask any cab driver, and if he does not know, it is next door to the Cine Rivera. On the same block is another decent place, the Champagne Club. These two places have doormen and security, so they do not let drunken, brawling idiots get in the door. It’s safe for gringos. You do have to be very picky at the Stop Bar. I felt personally that Bucaramanga had tons of gorgeous women walking around on the sidewalks, and the women at the club were rather ordinary. They tend to be quite young and energetic. They will charge about 60,000 pesos about 30 dollars for you to take the girl to a nearby house or your hotel room for a tryst. They also will include in the bill alcohol and food. They take VISA, but one of the girls told me that the barman is in cahoots with the female cashier and they will put stuff on your bill that you did not order. From what I heard, the Champagne Club has classier girls, but I did not go. Be careful what neighborhood you wander into when visiting either Bucaramanga or Bogota. Some places can be hazardous. It is unlikely that the women will speak English at all. Buena suerte!”

Cost
Colombia is not an expensive country. Budget travelers can get by on around US$10 per day; while those staying in more comfortable hotels and eating at restaurants will spend around US$2030 per day. You should budget on US$5070 a day.

Legal
Colombia has no sodomy laws, Prostitution is legal.

BEST TIME
In the months of November, December and January, women flock to Cartagena from all over Colombia.
The Weather is very warm and tropical on the coast and in the north, with a rainy season from May to November. This varies according to altitude. It is cooler in the upland areas and cold in the mountains. Bogotá is always springlike, with cool days and crisp nights. Cali has but one or two weeks of cold weather per year, and no one knows exactly when they will come. The rest of the time, its hot and humid.

AIRLINES
Colombia’s national airline is Avianca AV. British Airways and Avianca each operate daily flights to Bogotá. There is also Copa which is a Panamanian airline. They fly into Cartagena and Baranquilla via Panama city using brand new 737700’s. They fly out of Miami and LA. Probably the best choice if you can get to LA cheaply. From Miami they tend to cost more than Avianca and your looking at an extra hop. Copa midnight redeye that stops in Panama City and gets you to Cartagena at 1:45 in the afternoon.

FLIGHT TIMES
From London to Bogotá is 11 hours 45 minutes, from Los Angeles is 10 hours 30 minutes, from New York is 6 hours 30 minutes, and from Sydney is 29 hours.

PASSPORTVISA
Passport valid for at least 6 months required by all.
Visa
Not required by those traveling for touristic purposes for up to 90 days except nationals from countries listed below who do require a visa. A visitor’s permit will be issued on arrival and a 15day extension to this period may usually be granted. All visitors must provide proof on arrival of sufficient funds to cover their stay.

CUSTOMS
The following goods may be taken into Colombia without incurring customs duty:
200 cigarettes and 50 cigars and up to 50g of tobacco; 2 bottles of wine or spirits; a reasonable quantity of perfume.
Prohibited:
Ammunition and firearms. Vegetables, plants or plant material; meat and food products of animal origin.

DEPARTURE
When leaving Bogota, get there at least two hours before your scheduled departure time. We recommend 2.5. The airlines say three. The airport opens before 5:00 AM. If you have a 7:30 AM flight out, get there by 5:00 AM.

Buses to the city depart every 20 minutes from 06002200 travel time 30 minutes.
Taxis are also available. Airport facilities include bank 07002200, dutyfree shop, bar, restaurant 07002200, tourist information and car hire Avis, Hertz and Dollar.

Cali Palmaseca CLO is 19km 10 miles from the city.
Cartagena Crespo CTG is 2km 1 mile from the city.

EXCHANGE
The official currency is the Peso. Exchange rate is tied to coffee prices and fluctuates approx., 700 peso = $1 Cdn or 1000 peso = $1 US. Some taxi drivers etc. may take US$ but most will not. Best exchange rate is at the banks but not recommended as time consuming with different hours open, lineups passport req. etc. The Casa de Cambios located mainly in Boca Grande offer only slightly less than bank rates and is much more convenient. For changing large amounts try the private banks in the larger jewelery stores also cash advance better rate than the casa’s and less hassles than the banks passport still needed.
Best bet is of course ATMs there are hundreds mainly in Boca Grande and some take USCdn and other foreign cards and have instructions in English. If no ATM and need to exchange at night, try the casino as they will give a better rate than the hotel front desk.
Colombian Peso peso = 100 centavos.
Notes are in denominations of peso20,000, 10,000, 5000 and 2000. Coins are in denominations of peso1000, 500, 200, 100 and 50.

TIP: The exchange rate tends to be lower on the Caribbean coast than in Bogotá, Medellin and Cali. The US Dollar is the easiest currency to exchange at hotels, banks, shops and travel agencies; but all establishments charge an exchange fee.

TRAVELERS CHEQUESCREDIT CARDS
All major credit cards are accepted, but check with your credit card company for details of merchant acceptability and other services which may be available.
Travellers cheques: These are not always easy to change in the smaller towns, except at branches of the Banco de la República. To avoid additional exchange rate charges, travellers are advised to take travelers cheques in US Dollars.

HOW MUCH
Hotels: Colombia is not an expensive country. Budget travelers can get by on around US$10 per day; while those staying in more comfortable hotels and eating at restaurants will spend around US$2030 per day. Splurgers should budget on US$5070 a day.

LANGUAGE TIPS
Good advise for anyone going to Colombia is to learn a little Spanish or hang out w someone who does. It’ll save you time & money.

If you know some Spanish then we recommend you contact the escort services in the paper. These chicks are hot & charge $20$40.

WORDS AND PHRASES
Escort: Acompańante” or Modelo

FOOD AND WATER
All water should be regarded as being potentially contaminated. Water used for drinking, brushing teeth or making ice should have first been boiled or otherwise sterilized. Milk is unpasteurized and should be boiled. Powdered or tinned milk is available and is advised, but make sure that it is reconstituted with pure water. Avoid dairy products which are likely to have been made from unboiled milk. Only eat well cooked meat and fish, preferably served hot. Pork, salad and mayonnaise may carry increased risk. Vegetables should be cooked and fruit peeled.

RESTAURANTS
Restaurante Riquisimo: Excellent and not just for the budget minded. It’s a basic little outdoor restaurant located near the Las Velas hotel on the way to the Hilton right next to the Tropical Net Internet café. There is an open grill right next to the sidewalk with the uncooked grill dishes on display right next to it. Don’t worry, they will bring out a fresh cut and grill it in front of you once you make your selection from the dishes on display. The choices are chicken breast, steak, shish kebab’s, sausages and maybe one or two other things. They also have standard beans, rice and chicken dishes. The portions are quite large and all come with a salad and fried potatoes. A huge grilled chicken breast cost $3.50. The food is brought in fresh daily.

Paco’s:
In Plaza Santo Domingo. Good for seafood. Steak was only so so so I was told. Try their made from scratch fish sticks. Don’t know what they dipped the batter in but man was it tasty $6.

El Carbon de Palo:
In the Plaza Santo Domingo. An added bonus is that you can take in the ambiance of the plaza on their balcony without being subjected to the touts. You get 450grams of baby beef or Thick Tenderloin for $11. Probably two of the best steaks I ever had. Best time for dinner and people watching in the plaza with minimal traffic noise is after 8pm.

Pizza Faroah:
On the corner of Ave San Martin and Calle 5. A small Hawaiianabout 14” cost $6. Very tasty. Pizza Piccolo is a chain pizza place that is good for a quick cheap pasta or pizza. It’s almost directly across from the Almirante which is the best location for people watching. Spagetti with mushrooms and chicken in a light crčme sauce topped with cheese cost $3.50.

La Palacio de las Frutas:
Breakfast Directly across from the Almirante hotel. Scrambled eggs with ham, toast, jam, orange juice, coffee or hot chocolate for $2.50.

HOTELS
BOGOTA
Andino Royal is located about one block from La Zona Rosa. They have airport pickup service. $95 a night. The best thing about the Andino Royal, its right next to La Zona Rosa and Centro Andino, which are really cool places to shop and drink coffee during the day. At night, Zona Rosa is thriving, and there are totally hot girls walking around everywhere.

Best Western Chile Inn:
Located in the commercial district. Very nice hotel, $110 per night for a room with a kingsized bed. Just a short walk from Porky’s. Also, if you walk out of the hotel, turn right, turn right again at the first street, and walk two blocks, there’s a hairmanicure place on your left that gives massage for $10.

MEDELLIN HOTELS
El Poblado Plaza
located in El Poblado. Complete luxury at around $62night!! Medellin is also considered the center of fashion in LatinAmerican so you will find great shopping opportunities at ridiculously low prices.

CARTAGENA HOTELS
Flamingo:
Ave. San Martin No. 585. Ph:57566506230751100711350302
Fax:5756650879. email:hotelflamingo@celcaribe.net.co
$40 55$ per night depending on time of year. Guest fee $1015. No problems bringing chicas back, best is to give the night portier 10$ the first day, he will do everything for you. The rooms are basic but clean, small tips of 25$ make wonder happen. Good aircondition but cold water. Has an own access to the dirty beach, which was very crowded with most ugly Colombians in vacancy. Better is the beach at the left end in direction to Hilton Hotel.

Hostal Tres Banderas
In the old Town, 30$ a day, excellent, great accommodation near Santa Clara in San Diego, but without private phone and very familiar. But you will get your own key, so none will see what or who you are going to take in. Hostal Tres Banderas is near Hotel Santa Clara.

Hotel Monterrey
Which was also very good 60$ per day, no problems with guests 10$ fee.

Decameron:
Aside from the price and convenience, it’s at the end of Boca Grande and easy access to Centro. A lot of South Americans stay there, including bored frustrated wives, in town for a weekend of shopping, gambling and whatever! $225 for 8 days7 nights all inclusive. Buffets for breakfast and lunch and a choice of hotel restaurants for dinner. Lots of talent floating around the hotel but it is better if you speak a little Spanish. The Decameron lets you bring in girls for 45,000 pesos about US$25but they definitely frown on the whole scene and will start annoying you with calls at 7AM to get the girls out of your room.

Las Velas hotel
For $40 a night with no breakfast included. Being on the beach with a balcony facing the ocean is a good value for $40 but there are a few things you need to know. No cable Tv and all the stations go off the air after 1:00 a.m. No hot water. Many of the rooms only have two single beds so make sure to ask for a room with a double. Las Velas is a hotel right on the beach with huge room and one hell of a view and that’s about it. If you can’t get a room with a balcony and view then there is not really much reason to stay there. $12.50 extra fee for chicas. Carry your room key with you so you don’t have to get it from the front desk at night with your guest. The worst thing they can do is charge you for the extra person. Peak season is Dec15Jan20. Add about 20% to the following prices during that time.

STREET SCENE
If you’re into the street hookers be careful, a lot of them are transvestites. Ave. San Martin and Calle 5 area starting around 9pm. The ones near the Las Velas hotel seemed a little more laid back and I remembered reading that gems could be found in that area but I never did partake. Best times seemed to be between 10pm and 1am.

MEDELLIN
For street action, check out the circle at Alma Centro, across the street from the San Diego shopping center.

BOGOTA
0601 There are street hookers on 15th street or “Avenida” 15 from Calles 80 through 100, but they tend to be shorter and less attractive. They run about $2030, and a room rental for an hour should be no more than $10 bucks. Some don’t use condoms. 1 US Dollar = $2,000 Pesos on 712000. I suggest your try the several strip clubs or massage parlors on or adjacent to the Avenida 15 in the north part of the city. There are Beautiful girls of all types, such as White, Black from the “Costa”, and some typical brown Hispanic girls. No cover charge, but they make up for it with the expensive drinks they sell at the bar. Full service was around $4060.The room at the same place or at a motel nextdoor runs from 10 to $20 USD. The girls gladly take US dollars, and most have a nice attitude and great bodies. All the girls make you use a condom or they don’t play. If you are a gringo, and you are staying at one of the Hotels in “El Norte”, just take a taxi ask them to drive you to one of these places on “Avenida Quince” as it is known there. Avenue fifteen. Be nice to the girls and they will reciprocate. Some are college educated, but had to resort to working in these places as the economy there has been in a recession for three years, and many cant find a “regular” job as a secretary or whatever. Like Tijuana or any other Latin American city, stay out of Unsafe, dark, or suspicious looking parts of the city as there is a lot of petty theft and street crime.

CASA’SBROTHELS
It’s been reported that all the Casa girls are required to have regular STD checks.

Casa de Navigando:

Manila House:
You walk through a house and in the first room is a bar and the second room a dance floor and ultimately end up outside in the backyardpatio. The girls are milling about back there with no real aggressive tendencies like your basic strip bar.

Casa del Marino Sailor house:
Located in Cartagena. They have a large indoor bar with a big stage. They say this is the best house in town… For a total of $40 you get a hot babe & a little room to fuck in as well…The set up is that of a cheap motel & is around 15 to 20 minutes away from the Hilton but it’s definitely worth it…The chicks there range from 7’s to 9’s.

Chicas Calientes:
A little apartment with three girls living there.

CLUBSDISCOSBARS
CALI CLUBS

Flores Frescas:
It’s in Calle 20N 4N16, ph. 6601958 6601959. Every taxi driver knows it. They have hot shows at 9 and 12 pm stripping chicas, lesbian action and all are available. Museo de Oro:

Porky’s:
Located on Calle Chile. Tell the taxi driver Calle 74 con 15 and it will be there on the left. Most cabbies know where it is. A bar and a Casa since they have a nice bar with a dance. Rating: 710+s Like the rest of Colombia, every shade you could imagine. Definitely a keeper location. Negotiate first, most of the women will stay the night. Some like to leave around 56am.

Lido’s:
Leedos is both a bar & casa. Expensive but top shelf. Will run between $100150 for about four hours of pleasure in the hotel. Yes I only do take out.

Casablanca:
Good spot, less women than its neighbor Extasy. Both are near the Zona Rosa. You might want to try both. Walk across the street from one to the other.

Extasy:
Place is ok. Women here are more congenial.

CLUBSDISCOSBARS IN CARTAGENA
Noches de America:
$10 to leave about $50 to 100 for the night. The women are beautiful but it’s a high class clip joint where as soon as you open your mouth to say buenos dias, you’ve bought her a $20 glass of ‘champagne. They take credit cards.

La Dolce Vita:
No cover charge, reasonable prices for drinks and no charge to take out a girl. The music is loud like any other disco. All the girls are prescreened and they all come alone looking for tourists.

Mr. Babilia:
Free may need to buy dinner or something.

Club Banana:
$30 to $50US to the girl for the night.

Escoliera:
$40 to $100 to the girl for the night.

MEDILLIN
La Torre:
the Tower is located in the center of the city about a 510 minute taxi ride from the posh hotels in el Poblado. Taxi cost around $45 and he will even come back for you at closing time. La Torre is low rent to say the least. Plenty of attractive girls there for the choosing. Price $30 for the hour plus $10 for a short stay room.

Club Bengala:
Located in the industrial area off Ave. Las Vegas between El Poblado and downtown. Prices are cheap and the girls are fine and horny.

BARANQUILLA
Platinum Club:
Located in the downtown area of Baranquilla, near the former holiday inn.

American Relax:
Located at Carrera 35 Number 4342, second floor, is a fullscale brothel. For 60,000 pesos, less than $30, you get a massage from a naked woman, then she pulls out the futon and you lay down and get to work. It’s open 24 hours a day, there’s a big sign out front “American Relax” so it’s hard to miss. The women here are pros.

Apartment Complex:
Located at Carrera 46 Number 7220, room 302. This is an apartment complex across from a big stadium. There’s a guy sitting nearby to let you into the building as the gate is locked. Just tell him 302 and Mercedes, the name of the owner. She sits you down and explains the options, ranging from 40 for a BJ to 60 for whatever you want. Then the girls come out and introduce themselves.

Lucitania:
Has better quality and is not quite as dark as La Zona Rosa. Both blast you with music. Most girls seemed to have professional attitudes. The cover at Lucitania was $5 and it cost $30 to take out a girl. You can also do shortime on the premises. Most of the girls will probably go for $50 ST. Prices are less at La Zona Rosa but you get what you pay for.

BEACHES
1.San Andres island: far from the coast. Very beautiful.
2. Isla Fuerte near San Bernardo, Islas del Rosario near Cartagena, Taganga and Playa Blanca near Santa Marta. Very beautiful, but sometimes difficult to reach. Boring after a few hours.
3. Parque Tayrona: near Santa Marta. Very beautiful.
4. Pozos Colorados: near Santa Marta. OK.
5. Rodadero near Santa Marta. It’s OK. Sometimes crowded.
6. Tolu and Covenas.
7. Santa Marta city.
8. Cartagena.

MUSEUMS
In Bogotá a must see is the Museo del Oro down town. This houses the largest collection of preColombian gold artifacts in the word. Everyone should see this!” Lots of interesting things to see in the old section downtown and this area is worth a trip. Need to buy an emerald? This is the place. DO NOT buy off the street.

MASSAGE PARLORS
The country has no end of massage parlors and brothels. In Bogota and Medellin and Cali they advertise in the newspapers, and they’re all over the place. Some are little storefronts with a receptionist and a worker who does quick blowjobs in a screened off room. They’re very upfront, nothing illegal about them. And cheap.

VIDEO BARS
There are a number of places called “Video Bar”. They are bars that play video which are pornos. There are no stages. The interiors are dark and the girls are generally as pretty as the other clubs. They also tended to be older, some in their 30’s. Beers are about $3, and chick drinks less than $10. Same rules as the “night clubs”, room upstairs but for only $20. The Chica could be had for less than $50 for the hour. The rooms are bare. Only a mattress on the floor with a sheet.

MEDICAL
Health facilities in the main cities are good. In rural areas, services can be very limited. Travellers are strongly advised to take out full medical insurance. There are nine firms in Colombia offering prepaid medical care and medical insurance which may be purchased from travel agents, a list of which is available from the Embassy.

Vaccinations: None required

SECURITY TIPS
Reports tell us that Colombia is NOT the safest place to go. Especially if you are an American Citizen. If you are a fluent Spanish speaker, have a sense of adventure and stick to places that are in the cities, you should not have any problems. Just keep a low profile don’t go telling everyone you are a gringo and get to know taxi drivers recommended by the hotels. Bogota being worse in common delinquents, Cali worse in guerilla activity.

Attire: Dress down no fancy rings, watches or clothes, do not flash money.

Drugs:
Another issue you should be aware of is Burundanga. It’s the infamous drug that takes your will away. You’ll just give your robbers anything they want. So be VERY careful who you accept drinks food cigarettes from. Do not purchase drugs while you are there, as if we have to say it.

The city is heavily policed but there is normal minor street crime, use precautions and stay in the main tourist zones. Watch out for scammers on beach with fake Rolexes and Cuban cigars etc.

Transvestites:
There is a park full of TS in Centro near the bars. Don’t get too drunk and horny and wander in there. Some more TS also hang out at the eastern end of Boca Grande on the side streets leading down to the beach.

Rip Off Bars:
A nightclub called Noches de America on the main drag in Boca Grande. The women are beautiful but it’s a high class clip joint where as soon as you open your mouth to say high, you’ve bought her a $20 glass of ‘champagne.

Street Crime:
Worse danger are the street kids who are feral and sniff glue. They’ll cut you for your wallet camera etc. or if you get too close they mainly hang out between Centro and Boca Grande near the cruise ships dock.
Guerillas: The guerillas will get you if you act like a silly gringo and travel the country side.

TRAVEL WARNINGS
The Department of State warns U.S. citizens against unnecessary travel to Colombia. Violence by narcotraffickers, guerrillas, paramilitary groups and other criminal elements continues to affect all parts of the country. Citizens of the United States and other countries have been the victims of recent threats, kidnappings, domestic airline hijackings and murders. Colombian groups have been known to operate in the border areas of neighboring countries, creating similar dangers for travelers in those areas.

EMAIL
For checking email try “The Coffee Bean Shop” right next to the Almirante Hotel. It’s a very nice Starbucks type coffee place. While your waiting for your hotmail to load you can sip yuppie coffee, listen to the easy listening top 40 tunes and watch people walk by.
