I’ve never been to a Latin American country I didn’t like which includes Mexico, Cuba, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Peru but I found Ecuador or rather Quito particularly fascinating. Although a small country Ecuador has incredible geography from the tropical coast to the Andes and the Amazon to boot. The ethnic diversity is striking also with blacks from the coast, indigenous peoples in the Andes and of course the mestizos.
When I was there in March although brothels were found all over the city there were two main red light zones. During the day there were a number of hooker bars functioning in Old Quito between the bus station and the next to last stop on the Light Rail system. At night the action shifted to New Quito off Amazona’s Street. There was talk at the time of relocating both areas to outside the city.
At the place I went to in Old Quito you bought a ticket if you wanted to take a girl upstairs to what turned out to be the sleaziest rooms I’ve ever seen. Around the corner from 5-15 is an option if 5-15 is too crowded. I found it to have a better decor and nicer atmosphere.
